Eagles Landing Middle School removes Shadow from library

November 2011:

After an eleven-year-old girl checked out the book Shadow, her father complained to the school about the book's content. The school formed a committee to review the book, which includes profanity, an abortion, and an attempted rape, found it inappropriate for the students' age, and removed it from the library.

When contacted about the story, the book's author stated that she intended the book for seventh grade and above and that she would not have let her daughter read the book at eleven.
